It’s
been 3 months since mobile eatery Tom’s Fiesta first appeared
on the roads.
And it seems to be doing well addressing the dilemma of where
to get sustenance during that oh-too-short lunch hour.
Operations Manager Junia Tan said, “We [ourselves] are
an attraction”. But they know that novelty alone won’t be enough
to draw in the crowds. Strategy comes to play too. That’s why to rouse
the crowd’s interest; they offer food samples to curious and hungry passersby
and play funky tunes.
Apart from its food on wheels novelty, Tom’s Fiesta
offers 4 other types of services. They supply ready-packed lunches (great for
foreign workers), buffet catering, and beverages.
This company sure knows how to bring in the money even if
it means having to drive to the place where your party is held and delivering
food to your shop if you ask for it. Now, you needn’t go out in the hot
sun to look for Tom’s Fiesta’s food vehicle; it will literally come
to you.
Tickling the tastebuds
Chicken
wings, chicken thighs, French fries, baked potatoes, hotdogs may
not be on your list of healthy salad meals, but they get us drooling
a lot faster.? So now’s not the time to go on that long procrastinated
diet.
Most of Tom’s Fiesta’s foods are garnished with
a generous amount of their oh-so-yummy cream and spicy sauces. Whatever makes
it so tasty we don’t know for they refused to tell us (yes, we tried probing)
what secret ingredients were used.
Cock-a-doodle-doo
The
Fiesta chicken thigh cost ($2.50) is the mobile eatery’s signature
dish. You’ll know why once you take a bite. The deep-fried
chicken has a crisp golden-brown skin that is cooked to perfection,
while the meat remains juicy and flavourful, not so like the chicken
at KFC, the chicken at Tom’s Fiesta are do not leave the eater
with an oily and greasy feeling.. To complete the whole feisty experience,
the chicken is topped with whichever of the 2 sauces the customer
asks for.
Not only does the sauce blend well with the chicken’s
aromatic flavour, it also complements the already juicy and tender meat. It’s
amazing how Tom’s Fiesta makes use of the different subtle flavours to
enhance the otherwise ordinary tasting white meat. Being a typical Singaporean,
I scrapped the box empty of its secret sauce with my chicken to make sure that
I didn’t waste any of it.
The Fiesta potatoes ($1.50), which are just as popular, are
cooked just right. The potatoes are rather soft, but yet firm enough to prevent
them from being too mashed up. The carbo’s baked, so no extra calories
or cholesterol for our health-conscious readers here. Don’t worry, Tom’s
Fiesta sells other types of cuisine. Dim Sum, Japanese, Italian, Chinese and
local food are just some of the other tricks they have up their chef’s
sleeves.
Need something to quench your thirst after eating that hearty?
We suggest you help yourself to a cup of Cagliari coffee ($!.50). The aroma
of these strong Italian coffee beans alone would be enough to leave you thirsting
for more.
Trust me, you’ll want to visit this food on wheels concept.
How much and where to go
The
price ranges from $1to $3.50. Unfortunately, we won’t know
where they will be going next, but Tom’s Fiesta wishes to
target all major neighbourhoods within the next few months. The
number to call to order is 6225-2861, there isn’t a minimum
order, but the order should be large enough for at least 20 people.
What you live in some unknown area? No worries, so long as you live
in Singapore, they will deliver the food to your door step. Their
operating hours are from 6pm to 10pm.
I give it,
3 out of 5 stars.
