Jamelia – Thank You By Archanaa N. Raja • UrbanWire
From a totally unknown figure in Birmingham, Jamelia amazed everyone with her powerful voice at the age of 15, which led to the release of her first single three years later in 1999. It’s definitely astonishing to see how much more progress she has going by the strong vocals she displays in “Dirty Dirty”. This album redefines Jamelia as a strong individual and allows her maturity to shine. “Off Da Endz” features a collaboration with former So Solid member, Asher D, while “Bout” features Rah Digga, who was the only female member of Busta Rhyme’s renowned Flip Mode Squad. Motherhood seems to have helped Jamelia understand her inner-self better, and it is evident through her songs like “Antidote”, where she talks about loneliness.
It’s definitely worth listening to as Jamelia shows the multi-facetted
nature of her music through the mix of talents she’s chosen to collaborate
with. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Did You Know? • “Thank You” has just been nominated under the following
categories – UK Act of the Year, Best Single and Best Video for
this year’s Mercury Music Prize,
a nationwide celebration for the best in British music |
